Pleasantly Intrigued

August 9, 2016: Joke

It was a joke, really. But did I mean it? Sure, it was disguised as a joke. I understand why they looked at me the way they did. Each person had the same look in their eye. They had caught on to something. Something about me. I can see the light bulbs switching in their heads, widening their pupils and irises as they absorbed the hidden cues of my character. For a second I felt naked. The next second, I felt proud: I really did mean it. I inadvertently shared my soft spot for the good in the world, revealing a glimpse of a layer behind my macho exterior. They were pleasantly intrigued, as was I.
